Once again I was reminded to “fact-check” a situation of concern regarding the Buffalo Bills and to make sure what I heard or read about was actually true.
Well, I need to admit I did not fact-check the upcoming regular season schedule before declaring the NFL had done the 2026-27 Buffalo Bills wrong on a recent podcast of The ‘Cover-2’.
In fact, the shortened weeks due to 5 primetime games the Bills play is actually generous….especially seeing that they are not playing an over-seas game this season.
The only “hiccup” if you will, is the span of games in Weeks 5 and 6 where the Bills are scheduled to fly out to the West Coast for a Monday night game vs the Rams and then on short notice, fly back out to Las Vegas for a Thursday night game vs the Raiders.
And after that, the Bills enter their bye-week in Week 7.
Prior to this discovery of mine this morning, I was under the impression the Bills had a total of 4 “short-week” Primetime games away….and wondered why.
Even bitched and complained….somewhat debating it as if the league was punishing the Bills for not playing over-seas this season.
Now….I am humbled and pleased.
Pleased because it plays to the Bills favor as Week 1 the feature AFC matchup of the week is in Houston and the Bills return to Buffalo to prepare for the first short-week to face the Lions Thursday night in the home opener.
Yes, it’s a short week but they have all off-season to prepare for both games and get to do so at home and not at Ford Field in Detroit.
Typical of post-season quality teams in Primetime.
So once again, I am humbled and pleased as the other scenarios are not as bad as once thought.
The power of “fact-checking” (lol).
And it goes like this:
Week 2: Thursday Night Game at home vs Lions….after Sunday at Texans
Week 5: Monday Night Game at Los Angeles vs Rams….then Thursday at LV
Week 9: Monday Night Game at Minnesota vs Viking….then Sunday vs Jets
Week 12: Thursday Night Game at home vs KC….after Sunday vs Dolphins
Week 17: Saturday day game at Chicago vs Bears….after Sunday at Patriots
Not that bad….3 on the road and 2 at home. (not the assumed 4 on the road)
The preparation for the Lions ahead of the home opener can be accomplished in pre-season in truth….a lot of teams do this for short notice when games get “flexed” and it’s the home opener with momentum on our side.
The road weary of the Rams and Raiders will physically be a challenge….but the degree of difficulty lies with the Raiders in attempting an upset against an elite offense.
Yes….”Any given Sunday”, I get it, but it’s a 4pm game and there’s time to prepare for a bottom-level competitor in rebuild mode.
And the late arrivals of the McDermott-era should have been a lesson learned.
So, once again….”fact-checking” proves the point of backing up a point, something we do often here covering the Bills on social media.
Kudos to the NFL scheduling committee for the neutrality of lesser competition mixed in with the upper echelon of competition….and this season, we don’t have to travel over-seas.
A welcome relief in truth.
“Buckle up that chin-strap and get your popcorn ready”….the Bills are Primetime.
A new season….a new team….a new era….a new focus on bringing home the Lombardi and GO BILLS!!!!
