The defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks have a new ownership group. On Thursday, the franchise confirmed that the sale from Paul Allen’s estate to a group headed by the Khosla family has officially closed — marking the largest purchase price in NFL history at $9.612 billion.
A New Era for the Seahawks
Vinod Khosla, his wife Neeru Khosla, and their son Neal Khosla now hold controlling ownership of the team. The move comes after NFL owners voted unanimously on August 26 to approve the record-setting sale.
In a statement, the Khosla family expressed excitement about stepping into their new role, emphasizing the franchise’s championship pedigree and its deep ties to Seattle’s “12s” fan base. They also thanked the co-investors joining the ownership group and everyone involved throughout the sale process.
Leadership Roles Within the New Ownership Group
The Khosla family has outlined clear leadership positions within the organization:
- Vinod Khosla — Chair. Co-founder of Sun Microsystems and founder of venture capital firm Khosla Ventures.
- Neeru Khosla — Controlling Owner and President of the Seahawks Charitable Foundation.
- Neal Khosla — Vice Chair.
Formal Introduction Set for Season Opener Week
The Khosla family will be formally introduced to the public at a press conference next Wednesday at Lumen Field — the same day the Seahawks open their season at home against the New England Patriots in a rematch of Super Bowl LX.
Ahead of the announcement, Vinod Khosla responded to a fan on social media saying he’d welcome having Jody Allen raise the ceremonial 12 Flag before kickoff. Jody Allen had overseen the franchise since her brother, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen — credited with saving professional football in Seattle — passed away in 2018.
